Nasty Surprise

Basically I can't install patch 3.1.2. The installation procedure needs 3.5 Gb of free space to complete (even though the patch itself is only a few Mb) and I don't have the space. The way I've partitioned my harddrive means that even with WoW installed in the biggest partition, I still dont have enough space to have both the game and the 3.5G of free space on the same drive.
Having said that, I play from a three year old laptop with a 60Gb hard drive which also has a Linux partition on it besides windows. So I was already stretched thin. I've formatted last December, and going through the whole trial again is too much of a hastle.
So I guess I'll be taking a break for a while...until I get this fixed, in some way or another.

Does anyone know whether it's possible to play over an external HD?

If you install from the external HD I see no reason why it wouldn't work - it *might* be a bit slow - but it should run.

External HD works fine I use my 'pocket' 300GB external dive (connection via USB 2.0) when I'm going away without my laptop I don't think it's any slower

Yea I also read on forums people play like that. Be sure you have 2.0 port tho. at least my limited knowledge of computers implyes me so.

Besides you can't take a break - you've gotta kick my arse in duels!

Gaining Honor nicely atm - I'll have enough for my first piece of gear in a day or two, though I suspect that the WG dailies becoming weeklies thing will put a dent in the speed of gain.

Groovy - if I'm on I'm in - took bros to a BG for the first time last night - he had a whale of a time so we might make a group of 3 . I didn't realise until yesterday that you can't actually use the Strand of Ancients marks for anything at the moment.....?

Yes, BUT you can exchange one mark from every battleground (5 in all) for repetable q for great honour which gives you 1260 honor I bealive!

If you have problems whit your partichons Twila you can always marge them or redistribute the siz of them.... There are programs for this and i have done it... I dont remember what it was cald but ill link you it whene im back home.... But the external harddrive works good to...

Btw - this what Lea said try Partition magic - it'll allow you to change size of partitions without formatting them Bsically you can do it under windows with running system. It's great piece of software

Ok I'll read up about this and maybe try it out
To add insult to injury though I'm going to be away from home all of next week (till the end of May) on conference ( ), so it's still going to be a while before I'm online again

yes it will work, but the problem is external drives are made for storage not for playing things of it all the time, my frined did the same, his hard drives sounds like a a rat is chewing on it after 2 months of playing. so yes it will work, and yes it will be slower sense 2.0 ports ushally only move around 40-60MB/s and the hard drive in ur comp is much faster. so the only problem is that u mby lagg a big while its loading all the textures, but after that its fine. but watch out so u dont push it to hard (sorry for late reply, i hate my internet at home with my parents xD)
